An alleged animal-rights extremist on the U.S. most-wanted terrorist record since 2009 in reference to the bombing of a California biotechnology agency has been arrested in the UK, the FBI mentioned on Tuesday.
The suspect, Daniel Andreas San Diego, was arrested in Wales on Monday in an operation carried out by Britain’s Nationwide Crime Company, Counter Terrorism Policing and the North Wales Police in coordination with the FBI, the FBI mentioned in a press release. It was not instantly clear if San Diego, who’s now in detention pending extradition, has authorized illustration.
San Diego was charged in reference to a bomb blast at biotechnology agency Chiron Inc close to Oakland, California, in August 2003. A second bomb discovered there was deactivated by authorities and probably meant to focus on first responders. Authorities accuse San Diego of planting a 3rd bomb at one other California firm a month later.
Nobody was injured in any of the incidents, the FBI mentioned.
An entity calling itself the Revolutionary Cells claimed accountability for the assaults in statements posted to a pro-animal rights web site, citing the focused corporations’ alleged hyperlinks to Huntingdon Life Sciences, which had been criticized by animal rights activists over its use of animal testing and is now a part of the agency Inotiv.
In 2004 a federal grand jury returned an indictment charging San Diego with two counts of destroying or making an attempt to destroy property with explosives and two counts of use of a damaging gadget in a criminal offense of violence.
The FBI has mentioned that San Diego overtly expressed excessive views advocating the usage of violence to attain the targets of the animal rights motion.
