A tsunami warning has been issued for Papua New Guinea after a robust 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck the Pacific island nation, in line with the U.S. Tsunami Warning Middle.
The earthquake was centered 194 km east of Kimbe, the capital of the province of West New Britain, in line with the U.S. Geological Survey. It struck Saturday morning native time.
“Hazardous tsunami waves are forecast for some coasts,” the U.S. Tsunami Warning Middle stated following the quake.
Tsunami waves of 1 to three meters are potential alongside components of the Papua New Guinea shoreline, in line with the tsunami menace forecast.
Waves lower than 0.3 meters are additionally potential for the close by Solomon Islands, in line with the forecast.
